The Department of Science and Technology (DOST)-Batangas, in partnership with the Enrique Zobel Foundation, Inc. (EZFI), deployed the Versatile Instrumentation System for Science Education and Research (VISSER) and the Science and Technology Academic and Research-Based Openly Operated KioskS (STARBOOKS) to schools in Calatagan during a turnover ceremony held at the Function Hall of the EZFI Compound, Brgy. Gulod, on November 26.

The beneficiary of the VISSER kits was Lucsuhin National High School, while STARBOOKS units were turned over to Enrique Zobel Technical Center (ENZOTech), Calatagan National High School, and Calatagan Senior High School.

Ms. Maila T. Alvarez, Executive Assistant of Mayor Rico B. Puno from the Local Government Unit of Calatagan; Mr. Mhark Ellgine A. Libao, Supervising Science Research Specialist of DOST-Batangas; Mr. Paulino M. Buenconsejo, Executive Director of EZFI; Mr. Emerson B. Dalangin, Learning Manager and Science Coordinator of DepEd Batangas; Mr. Noah Duque, Education Program Specialist II of DepEd Batangas; Angelita C. Afalla, Master Teacher I of Lucsuhin National High School; and Dr. Rommel PeΓ±aranda, Principal of ENZOTech, spearheaded the turn over ceremonies.

The VISSER kits were highlighted as tools that bridge theory and practice, enabling students to conduct experiments with handheld devices and sensors that prepare them for future STEM careers. A training session on VISSER was conducted by Mr. Seanuel Joash P. Uyangoren of Making.technology, who guided teachers and students in exploring its interactive features and applications.

Meanwhile, STARBOOKS, the DOST’s digital library of science and technology resources, was introduced to the beneficiary schools through a training session led by Mr. Mhark Ellgine A. Libao of DOST-Batangas. The platform provides offline access to thousands of S&T materials, empowering schools with valuable references for research and classroom instruction.

Through this initiative, DOST-Batangas and EZFI reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening science education in Calatagan by equipping schools with modern tools that foster curiosity, innovation, and practical learning among students.
