The Department of Science and Technology (DOST)-Batangas deployed and conducted training on the Science and Technology Academic and Research-Based Openly Operated Kiosk Station (STARBOOKS) at Baybayin Elementary School, Rosario, Batangas, October 09.
The activity aimed to introduce STARBOOKS as a digital science and technology learning tool that provides students and teachers access to thousands of educational materials even without an internet connection.
Developed by the DOSTβScience and Technology Information Institute (DOSTβSTII), STARBOOKS is the first science and technology library-in-a-box in the Philippines. It contains digitized journals, books, videos, and interactive multimedia content covering various fields of science and technology. The platform includes gamified lessons and interactive modules designed to enhance classroom instruction and support independent learning.
Mr. Cedric L. Rodriguez, Science Research Specialist II of DOST-Batangas, facilitated the training sessions. Participants included teachers and student government representatives of Baybayin Elementary School. The session introduced the background and history of STARBOOKS, demonstrated its features and navigation, and showed how its resources can be integrated into classroom lessons.
To ensure the sustainability and proper management of the unit, a separate training was conducted for teachers focusing on STARBOOKSβ administrative management features. This included user account creation, content management, and system maintenance procedures to help the school effectively manage and maintain the kiosk.
The deployment and training form part of DOSTβs continuing efforts to promote inclusive access to science and technology information and to strengthen digital learning capabilities in schools across Batangas province.
