The DOST Southern Leyte PSTO successfully conducted an orientation on the Science and Technology Academic and Research-Based Openly Operated Kiosk Station (STARBOOKS) for school heads of the Department of Education (DepEd) Schools Division Office of Southern Leyte on September 12, 2025 at the Schools Division Office of Southern Leyte.

The activity aimed to familiarize school administrators with the features and benefits of STARBOOKS, a digital library developed by the DOST-Science and Technology Information Institute (DOST-STII). Known as the country’s first science and technology e-library, STARBOOKS provides offline access to thousands of digitized science and technology resources—ranging from books, journals, and instructional videos to livelihood modules and other learning materials.

Through the orientation, school heads were introduced to the system’s user-friendly interface and content, designed to support both teaching and learning. The technology is especially valuable in areas with limited or no internet connectivity, ensuring that students and teachers alike can access updated, science-based knowledge.

By equipping school leaders with the knowledge and confidence to adopt the technology, the initiative reinforces the shared goal of DepEd and DOST to strengthen access to quality educational resources and promote digital literacy in Southern Leyte.
