6 Schools in Kalinga Receive STARBOOKS

The Department of Science and Technology- Cordillera Administrative Region (DOST-CAR) through the Provincial Science and Technology Office (PSTO)- Kalinga, deployed six (6) units of the Department of Science and Technology - Science and Technology Information Institute (DOST-STII) Science and Technology Academic and Research-Based Openly-Operated Kiosk Stations (STARBOOKS) on January 17, 2025 at the PSTO-Kalinga, Conference Hall, Tabuk City, Kalinga.
Pinukpuk Vocational School, Mananig National High School and Allaguia National High School of Pinukpuk received one (1) unit each of the technology. Likewise, Gaang Elementary School, Babbanoy Elementary School and Biga Elementary School in Tanudan received one (1) unit each of STARBOOKS.
This initiative is funded under the Community Empowerment thru Science and Technology (CEST) Program under the Human Resource Development entry point in collaboration with the Local Government Unit (LGU) of Pinukpuk and Tanudan.
STARBOOKS, the Philippines’ first Digital Library, provides access to a vast collection of science, technology, innovation and educational resources even in areas with limited internet connectivity. This library-in-a-box, contains hundreds of thousands of materials in various formats- text, video and audio, that will surely provide an interactive learning experience.
The turnover ceremony was attended by the Department of Education (DepEd)- Kalinga Schools Division Superintendent, Dr. Natividad P. Bayubay, who emphasized the importance of these materials in advancing education. She highlighted how STARBOOKS can significantly enhance teaching and learning, providing students and teachers with valuable tools to further their knowledge and skills.
Meanwhile, Ms. Jasmin L. Donaal, the Provincial Science and Technology Director of PSTO-Kalinga, in her message, shared that the DOST has numerous Programs, Projects, and Activities (PPAs) designed for Human Resource Development. She assured that the DOST will give its full support and collaborate with the DepEd in implementing and deploying these initiatives to ensure their maximum impact.
After the turnover ceremony, a user’s training was conducted by Engr. Karl Ian O. Martinez, the Provincial STARBOOKS focal person. He provided a walk-through of the technology and demonstrated its usage. Participants also experienced the technology during the hands-on activity.
