STARBOOKS is Here! DOST x BPI Inc. Brings Offline Digital Learning in Sorsogon Pilot Elementary School

DOST-Science and Technology Information Institute (STII), through DOST-Bicol and PSTO Sorsogon, in partnership with Bank of the Philippine Islands (BPI) Foundation, Inc., turned over a STARBOOKS-ready computer unit to Sorsogon Pilot Elementary School in Talisay, Sorsogon City.

This initiative aligns with BPI Foundation's "Kasama Lahat sa Pag-unlad" advocacy, aiming to build a sustainable, inclusive, and financially well Philippines, and complements with DOST-STII's goal of disseminating science, technology, and innovation learning resources through Science and Technology Academic and Research-Based Openly-Operated KioskS (STARBOOKS).

Twenty-three participants, including teaching personnel and students, attended the turnover ceremony and training. Mr. Reynaldo A. Morales, Jr., Science Research Analyst of DOST-STII provided a comprehensive overview of STARBOOKS' background and history during the STARBOOKS Orientation and Hands-on Training. Mr. Morales showcased the system's content, highlighting learning materials designed for Grades 1-12 students, which are also beneficial for teachers. The training aimed to equip participants with the knowledge and skills needed to operate, maintain, and submit reports using the STARBOOKS system.

This initiative will excite over 2,500 students and 93 teaching personnel, empowering them and bridging the gap in learning materials within the institution. It aims to cultivate interest in Science and Technology among learners and foster financial literacy through the integrated financial module.

“We are very grateful to DOST and BPI Inc., this will be particularly useful for Brigada Eskwela 2024, especially as the class opening approaches. Together, we can educate learners and achieve our goal of producing Sorsoganon scientists!” stated SPES Principal Jeannie C. Dellosa during the closing message. Also present at the event were representatives from DOST V, PSTO Sorsogon, and DepEd SDO - Sorsogon City and Province.

STARBOOKS is a multi-awarded, stand-alone science and technology (S&T) library in a box, developed by the DOST-Science and Technology Information Institute (STII). It provides a wide range of S&T-based educational and learning resources in various formats.
