For more accessible science and technology information, DOST-Quezon installed Science and Technology Academic and Research-Based Openly Operated KioskS (STARBOOKS) at Cesar C. Tan Memorial National High School (CCTMNHS), Quezon, Quezon, July 22.
Through Team Energy Corporation's donated equipment - 3 computer hardware, 75 inches television, WiFi modem, and other computer accessories, more than 700 students and teachers of CCTMNHS now have access to STARBOOKS.
STARBOOKS, a digital library in a box, was developed by DOST Science and Technology Information Institute (STII) that has thousands of digitized science and technology resources, including books, journals, theses, technical reports, and even the K-12 Curriculum, which can be accessed online and offline.
A STARBOOKS orientation and training was attended by CCTMNHS teachers, and was facilitated by DOST Quezon staff, Ms. Unice Faith N. Cataquiz, PTA I, and Mr. Aldwin T. Royena, SRS II.
Consecutively, a meeting for sustainability of the Mini Science Centrum, launched last April 5, was also conducted to plan for its lifelong sustenance. Ms. Myra Soriano, Mini Science Centrum Focal Person, and Ms. Greta Entoma, School Principal, presented their strategic plan so the public could visit the science centrum.
Also, DOST Quezon delivered 500 pcs of SIGLA Crunchies, a complementary food developed by the Food and Nutrition Research Institute (FNRI) to fight malnutrition, and to be distributed for the students of CCTMNHS during their upcoming class opening.
CCTMNHS is located at Alabat Island, municipality of Quezon, which belongs to the geographically isolated and disadvantaged areas in Quezon Province.
