Students of Placido T. Amo Senior High School (SHS) now have access to thousands of science and technology resources even without internet connection through the Department of Science and Technology’s (DOST) STARBOOKS short for the Science and Technology Academic and Research-Based Openly-Operated Kiosks.
DOST-Batangas deployed the STARBOOKS unit to Placido T. Amo SHS on May 21, 2024. An orientation and training session was held to equip teachers with the skills needed to navigate and utilize STARBOOKS resources for academic and research purposes. This session included an overview of STARBOOKS' features and content, demonstrating how these resources can enhance STEM education by supplementing learning materials.
A site admin training session was also conducted to ensure efficient management and maintenance of the STARBOOKS system in the schools. The training covered tasks such as data registration, navigating various articles, and exploring interactive math and science games. Teachers and the Information and Communications Technology (ICT) coordinator were also oriented on the admin module, which involves user assistance, submission of transmittal files, reviewing user feedback and comments, updating STARBOOKS content, and managing the kiosk. The deployment and orientation-training were facilitated by Mr. Cedric L. Rodriguez, the DOST-Batangas STARBOOKS coordinator.
Developed by the Science and Technology Information Institute (DOST-STII), STARBOOKS offers thousands of digitized science and technology resources to supplement classroom learning and boost research capabilities. It provides access to information even without an internet connection.
