De La Salle Lipa is the newest addition to the beneficiaries of the Department of Science and Technology’s (DOST) STARBOOKS or the Science and Technology Academic and Research-Based Openly-Operated Kiosks.

The STARBOOKS unit was deployed at De La Salle Lipa’s library on May 07, 2024, and an orientation-training was conducted to capacitate the teachers on navigating and utilizing the resources available on STARBOOKS for academic and research purposes. It covered the features and contents of STARBOOKS, as well as how they can be used to supplement learning materials in STEM education.

A site admin training was also conducted to ensure efficient management and maintenance of the STARBOOKS system in the schools. This training focused on tasks such as registering data, navigating numerous articles, and exploring interactive math and science games. Teachers and the Information and Communications Technology (ICT) coordinator were also briefed on the admin module, which includes user assistance, submission of transmittal files, reviewing user feedback and comments, updating STARBOOKS contents, and managing the kiosk. Prior to the deployment, De La Salle Lipa provided the computer set, while DOST-Batangas undertook the installation of the STARBOOKS system. DOST-Batangas STARBOOKS coordinators, Ms. Renalee M. Leyesa and Mr. Cedric L. Rodriguez, facilitated the deployment and orientation-training.

The STARBOOKS, developed by the Science and Technology Information Institute (DOST-STII), contains thousands of digitized science and technology resources that can supplement classroom learning and enhance research capabilities. It allows access to information even in the absence of an internet connection.

Ms. Ma. Chona Chavez, De La Salle Lipa's Chief Librarian, thanked DOST for providing the STARBOOKS system and training , emphasizing the significant impact it will have on the students' education and research endeavors. She promised that the school will maximize the use of STARBOOKS to further enrich the learning experience of their students and promote a culture of research and innovation within the institution.
