In a turnover ceremony held at the SM Aura Tower last 20 February 2025, 15 selected public schools in Taguig City received the Science and Technology Academic and Research-Based Openly-Operated Kiosks or STARBOOKS.

Made possible through the partnership between the DOST-Science and Technology Information Institute (DOST-STII), DOST-National Capital Region (DOST-NCR), Department of Education (DepEd) Taguig-Pateros Division Office and the local government of Taguig City, the ceremony turned over one (1) computer set with Wi-Fi router and a STARBOOKS kiosk for each recipient school.

In attendance was Taguig City Mayor Maria Laarni L. Cayetano, wherein she acknowledged all those involved in furthering digital education in the city. She emphasized the technology is Filipino-made, so the community, in return, should maximize utilizing it.

“This [STARBOOKS] will no doubt make teaching and learning in Taguig more interactive and fun,” said Mayor Cayetano.

The chosen beneficiary schools include Western Bicutan National High School, Enlisted Men’s Signal Village Elementary School, Pateros Elementary School, Ricardo P. Cruz Elementary School, Benigno “Ninoy” S. Aquino High School, Napindan Integrated School, Taguig Integrated School, Pitogo High School, Pateros National High School, Comembo Elementary School, Rizal Elementary School, Daanghari Elementary School, Makati Science High School, Taguig Science High School and Senator Renato “Compañero” Cayetano Memorial Science and Technology High School.

STARBOOKS is a digital library-in-a-box developed by the DOST-STII in 2011. It contains thousands of science, technology, and innovation (ST&I) information resources, as well as DepEd-aligned K-to-12 materials.
