14 April 2025 – The Provincial Science and Technology Office – Zamboanga del Norte (PSTO-ZDN) successfully turned over one (1) unit of the STARBOOKS digital library system to Kalucap Elementary School of Barangay Calucap, Salug, Zamboanga del Norte. This initiative is part of the project entitled “Community Empowerment of the Municipality of Salug through Science and Technology (CEST-Salug),” which received total funding assistance amounting to Php 2,413,449.16.

Gracing the turn-over ceremony were Ms. Ignavic Chied C. Caboverde, ICT Coordinator of the school; Hon. Wilson S. Busig, Barangay Captain of Calucap; and Ms. Richi Lou Dialo, Project Focal Person from LGU-Salug.

To formally commence the partnership, a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) between DOST and Kalucap Elementary School was also initiated during the event.

Following the ceremonial handover, a training session on the use and operation of the STARBOOKS system was conducted by Ms. Jelyn O. Bayonas, Senior Science Research Specialist of PSTO-ZDN. The training covered an overview of the technology and included a hands-on demonstration to familiarize users with its features and functions.

STARBOOKS (Science and Technology Academic and Research-Based Openly Operated Kiosks) is the Philippines’ first digital “library-in-a-box.” It provides free access to a wide range of digitized science and technology resources—including text, videos, and audio materials—even without an internet connection.
