Kaohsiung City, Taiwan | March 14-16, 2025 – A collaborative Science and Technology education initiative between the Department of Science and Technology-Bicol (DOST-Bicol) and the Kiwanis Club of Daragang Magayon (KCDM) contributed to the selection of KCDM's K-Mobile and Digital Library Project as the official entry of the Kiwanis Philippine Luzon District (KPLD) to the 50th Kiwanis Asia-Pacific Convention.

The K-Mobile and Digital Library Project stands as a beacon of innovative educational outreach, combining the reach of the Mobile Library and the depth of digital resources. The Mobile Library, a key community initiative, offers weekly access to educational materials at Sawangan Park in Legazpi City, ensuring learning opportunities extend beyond the classroom.

This initiative took a significant leap forward with the integration of DOST's Science and Technology Academic and Research-Based Openly-Operated KioskS (STARBOOKS) at Daraga National High School on December 16, 2024 (read the full story at https://tinyurl.com/mtj5spt4). This partnership has significantly enhanced the project's educational impact, positioning it as a powerful tool for regional development.

The addition of STARBOOKS plays a crucial role in creating a more inclusive and progressive educational environment within the Bicol region. This digital library, rich with Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) resources, equips students and educators with an extensive collection of learning materials. By promoting critical thinking and a deeper understanding of science and technology, STARBOOKS has become an invaluable resource in fostering academic excellence. Together with the mobility of the K-Mobile, it addresses diverse learning needs and creates a dynamic learning ecosystem within the community.

Though KCDM’s K-Mobile and Digital Library Project was not awarded at the 50th Kiwanis Asia-Pacific Convention, its selection as the KPLD's representative underscores the profound impact the project has had on regional education. This recognition highlights the power of local partnerships in driving educational transformation and aligns with Kiwanis International's mission of serving children. The collaboration between DOST-Bicol and KCDM exemplifies the region's commitment to expanding access to cutting-edge educational tools, nurturing academic growth, and cultivating a culture of innovation.
